Hi! Welcome to Machi's Taxi Restaurant Guide.

Guests on that day wanted to have "okonomiyaki" for their lunch.
So we visited "YOSHINO" near the famous buddhist temple, Sanjusangendo.

Okonomiyaki is a kind of pancake made from batter and some ingredients.
The batter is usually made of wheat flour, grated yam, broth, and shredded cabbage.

To get to this diner, you walk south along the west side of the wall of the Sanjusangendo.
After passing through a small intersection, continue going south a little further.

Then, you will find this sign on your left side.

Undoubtedly, most people visiting this diner for the first time would not be able to find it without this sign and lantern to guide them.

Turn left and go into this alley.

The entrance is on the left side of the red lantern.

In the foreground is what I ordered... "Ikatama"-price 700JPY

Tha name "Ikatama" is a contraction of "ika(squid) and tamago(egg)"
You can also order "Butatama (pork and egg)", and "Gyutama(beef and egg)"

This other is "Sobairi"-price 850JPY

"Sobairi" literally means "including soba noodles".
For this type of okonomiyaki, fried noodles are included, and you can choose from one of the three following ingredients... squid, beef, or pork.

It seems that concierges of a nearby hotel sometimes introduce their guests to this diner.
Therefore you needn't worry... even if they don't have English menus, they are used to serving foreign customers.

If you show this picture to your taxi driver in Kyoto, he’ll have no trouble taking you to this restaurant.

Taxi fare will be:
720JPY from Kyoto station,
800JPY from the Kiyomizu temple.
The above prices are just my approximate guess.
